***INSP14: PERSONAL PORTRAITS***

This issue of INSP art magazine deals with personal stories of gender, so much so that this issue has as its theme title 'Personal Portraits'. It is important that this issue highlights personalised reflections of the story of the artists contributing, regarding gender, rather than a generalised social/political one. Intimacy is everything. Connection and empathy with that intimacy can make all the difference in the understanding of others, and that is what I want this issue to be about.

The eight artists who will be contributing to this issue will decide for themselves how they wish to contribute. It can be entirely text led, entirely visual led, a combination of both, or something else entirely. Their contribution can deal with their past, their present, the connection they have with others, their fantasies, their realities, as long as they are personal to each of the artists, anything can be accepted. It is important that each artist feels comfortable and at home with this issue. It is their stories that matter, nothing else.

INSP14 is set for release in early March, though this is a moveable date. I want to get this issue right, it is important and shouldn't be rushed. This issue will also be the first that will be available as a wholly printed version, but more of that later.

More information can of course be found by checking this site regularly. INSP14 is shaping up to be an important portrayal of contemporary attitudes and connections to gender, with poets and artists from across three continents contributing to this issue with their own stories, their own portraits.

Welcome  to INSP13… and a re-brand for what was formerly known as Inspirational.

Since September 2016 I have been researching and liaising with colleagues and contemporaries to finalise a brand aesthetic and content overhaul--so, out with the old and in with the new.

Inspirational looks forward to looking forward, this re-brand has shifted space, place and audience for what will now be called INSP or more pertinently I’N’S’P.

Just to give you some context, since 2014, Inspirational has been presenting dynamic and challenging works by artists from a plethora of locations, world views and disciplines.

In this issue as with all further issues of INSP a thematic approach will be employed to reflect trends, challenges and new realities for artists and their work. This “visual conversation” will manifest itself as contemporary shifts shift. So let me welcome you to:

INSP13RE:APPROPRIATE

In this issue I present RE:APPROPRIATE which as title I feel compliments this notion of re-brand and change, new beginning. Moving forward you will find new sections which include Links & Resources with current artist CALL OUTS, ART GROUPS, ORGANISATIONS, EXHIBITIONS. There is a live and interactive artists contents page, live links to video feeds, Artist interviews, a Poet in residence (responding to the theme), and a moment of reflection whereby I invite an artist from the previous issue to respond to the current theme, this issue being re:appropriate. In INSP13 I’m thrilled to invite Stiofan O’Ceallaigh to “re:appropriate”..

I hope you enjoy this shift in what is proving to be a very exciting time for this publication and I invite you to participate and feedback in what I call “Conscious Culture Conversation”.

I gladly welcome all feedback at this important time and also WELCOME to INSP(13:RE:APPROPRIATE),

INSP14 will present GENDER. Non-binary identifying artists from Transgender to Agender.

Inspirational Plus - man/body/fiber  6 artists, 8 questions

The 6 artists: Anthony Stevens, Cos Ahmet, Joe Lewis, James Fox, Luke Haynes, Stewart Kelly.

The questions:

Why fiber/textiles and not another discipline?
What does it mean to you personally, being a man?
What does it mean to you being a man in the fiber/textiles field?
How do you think that your gender influences your work as an artist?
What do you think that you have brought with you to the fiber/textiles discipline, by being a man?

Do you express your gender through fiber/textiles in a general or more personal level?
Would you encourage more men to enter the fiber/textiles world, and if so, why?
What next for Ant/Cos/James/Joe/Luke/Stewart?

Inspirational Plus comes in at 76 pages, with 49 full page, full colour photos of artists work.
